Remember when I stated on my last takeaways that I had enough of Ronda Rousey and she is way over exposed? Seriously, wtf is this?
* I actually had Bendo winning the fight, and to call this fight a robbery would be ridiculous. It was a closely fought contest with two of the three judges preferring the more aggressive fighter that threw the more powerful strikes. Simple as that. * Cerrone vs Pettis is gonna be off the hook. Lot of people see this as a tough fight but I like Pettis in this matchup by a lot. This has all the makings of Cerrone vs Diaz part two, with the exception that this time around Donald is going to get his ass kicked in way more spectacular fashion. * I seriously had enough of Ronda Rousey. There is a quality about her that is not likable yet not enough to have her become a major successful heel. * Jake Shield’s fights are like being caught at a drive thru behind a mini van. You know there will be about 14 orders coming from that van that will hold everything up but you can’t do anything about it because you just committed to getting in the drive thru lane. I invested in this PPV, fucken Jake Shields be always holding shit up. * Max Holloway has the perfect physical characteristics of someone I would pick a fight with during a very drunken stupor. This is why street fights are a bad idea. Hawaiian Urkel will knock the breaks off my ass. * When camera panned to Nate Diaz in the crowd, his facial expression was exactly like mine when my girlfriend tries to wake me up early during lazy Sundays mornings. Kind of pissed off but knowing you can’t really do anything about it because the repercussions are gonna be long lasting.
* When Joe Rogan calls a guillotine, you bet your ass that the guy who is in the choke will escape. * Brandon Vera did what I thought he would do, but at the end it wasn’t quite enough. Might want to think about not adjusting the mouth piece when Shogun Rua is trying to decimate your face. * Brazillan Zombie… Uhhhhhh I mean Shogun Rua is one tough cookie, and such a likeable chracter. I see why he has such a rabid fanbase that think he is still a top 3 light heavyweight. I think not. * Chael Sonnen and Rashad Evans calling out Phil Davis for not using his wrestling even though the fight only lasted about a minute into the first round. They must have took notes from Dana White’s guide to wrestling (Cain vs JDS). * This was one of the best card of the year as far as results go, I wonder how much people got to watch the fights with the Olympics being the black hole of ratings on NBC. Imagine if this card was the debut UFC card on FOX. * Ryan “Ahhhh Fuck it!” Bader’s game plan…. Well we all saw it coming. Anyone who gave Bader a shot at winning against Machida probably just started watching mma from UFC 144.
* Why didn’t Nick Ring stopped the judges from robbing Court Mcgee? * Calgary crowd had the perfect geeky combination of Brazilian fan’s ruckus with the Japanese crowd’s politeness. “Go Nick Go!” Seriously? * Urijah Faber should get more tittle shots as long as he keeps beating up his competition. Last time I checked MMA was a sport, were the Bills ever denied of going to the superbowl cause of their multiple failures in winning it? * Renan Barao is going to knock the breaks off of Dominic Cruz. He will have easier match up with Dominic than he had with Urijah. Color me tremendously impressed and totally glad that I didn’t put any money on Faber. Virtually everyone of the so called experts were picking Faber to win in a mild upset, and when something is that obvious to everyone, chances are that it is really not that obvious. * Looks like Hector Lombard is going to get his wish of facing off against Mark Munoz.
* Thank god that while I didn’t outright pick Garcia to win the fight in our last prediction post, I made it clear that my betting account would be picking him on the upset. Going against Amir’s chin is always a good bet when he is facing decent opposition, and especially at over +400 odds. * Amir Khan’s fight with Danny Garcia was exciting, and Khan showed a lot of heart in trying to fight back even when he was out on fabulous street. Call me crazy but I felt like the ref stopped the fight early. * Last night fight between Garcia and Khan is the reason why I want the great sport of boxing to forbid holding. The exchanges that occurred inside that allowed Danny to get his shots off was due to either Amir’s lack of knowledge in holding or his insistence in not holding Garcia to punish him. If that was Devon Alexander in there you bet your ass he would be getting his shots off first and then holding on to the arms of Garcia for a boring unanimous 12 round decision. No holding…. AT ALL. Rule changes are needed to catch up with the times. * Speaking of holding, Vitali is going to have his way with David Haye. * I feel like MMA is more exciting than boxing generally about 90% of the time. But when there is that special fight in boxing….. Nothing beat it. As a lifelong boxing fan I have to admit that MMA has become a sport of actions, while boxing is now a sport of moments.
