GBU: Salido & Lopez go to war,Curran crushes Warren, TUF off to a strong start

The Good Orlando Salido vs Juan Manuel Lopez 2 – The long standing boxing rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico just added another chapter to it’s history books as Orlando Salido and Juan Manuel Lopez gave everything they had in an instant classic and early contender for fight of the year. Despite stopping Lopez in an upset last year Salido came in as the underdog once again and fought like it. Salido came out as the both the more aggressive and confident fighter from the opening round undeterred by the Puerto Rican crowd. The defending champion was in control of the first four plus rounds before being knocked down and badly hurt by Lopez at the close of the fifth round. Salido gathered himself and continued successfully marching forward in the sixth though Lopez started to fare better in return.   Then came the 9th round. In a sure fire leader for round of the year Salido and Lopez slugged it out toe to toe for all of three minutes neither willing to back down to the other in a display of guts, courage, and pride from both men. That round appeared to take something out of both warriros but perhaps more Lopez than Salido. The 10th round would be Lopez’ last stand as Salido would catch him with a right hook that froze the the former champion in his tracks. Salido followed up with three more punches that put JuanMa down and although he got up before the 10 count he was clearly on unsteady legs prompting the referee to stop the bout and save Lopez from absorbing any further punishment. I think any fight fan can agree it takes two fighters to make a great fight and that was certainly the case here but credit must be given [...]

Duc’s Gambling Journal

I used to be a heavy gambler. But now I just make mental bets. That’s how I lost my mind. Jun 23, 2011  3:30pm I took a break last week on my gambling journal since the matchups that week were pretty lopsided.  I mean what the fuck, do you want me to pick the Mexican ginger version of Richard Gere to beat up on his second quadruple B (Bad Bald British Boxer) and then thump my chest about how great my pick was?  I got a lot of sakuraba (aka. pride) man; I don’t make picks like that.   So up on returning this week, I want to make a big splash with both the UFC fight night and HBO boxing being on this weekend.  Also being a loyal reader of my own stuff, I just listened to this week’s Science of Violence radio show to gain some insight into what matchups were favorable and who was severely underrated in their particular fight.  So what kind of information did I get?  Well the inside information I got out of this week’s radio show was not fight related at all, instead it is that all the co host seems to be have a extreme distaste for any type of hair management by the fighters during his pre or post fight celebration.  Additionally, 2 of the 3 co hosts seem to suffer from severe form narcolepsy that is only brought on by any boxing match that is 24 rounds long.   Wait, Canalo was fighting a different guy this time?  You gotta be kidding me.   So to cut through all this unnecessary chatter,  my pick for this week is………. I am skipping this week too.  The reason for this is simple, the matchups this weekend are  not big enough for my [...]

Slump Buster: Baseball players believe that by having sex with an unattractive female, they can end their slump.   June 10, 2011  1:00 am Last weekend’s bet was my version of a slump buster.  Sometimes you just need a win, no matter how unattractive a bet is or how little the payoff turns out to be, sometimes you just got to bust a positive net.   And let me get this off my chest, I am horrific at picking MMA fights.  If I made any profits off of betting on combat sports, you bet your ass it came from betting on boxing and not on mixed martial arts.   That’s why I was confident on Carl Froch using his Vic Darchinyan/Big Foot like boxing style to take Glen Johnson to school.  And let me also get this off my chest, I think Carl Froch will beat Andre Ward in the super six finals, and not only beat Ward but knock him the fuck out.   As far as this weekend’s UFC 131 event, I am going to bet 25 dollars, (riding that hope baby, riding that hope) on Junior Dos Santos to win with the odds being at -175.  If Junior lays down the law on the Machinist, err I mean Shane Carwin, the purse for this bet will be +14 dollars and some change in my favor.   Not impressed? Baby steps my man, baby steps.  You don’t start hitting on miss universe right after you got done with the slump buster, rather you have to move up the ladder within the slump buster department, ya see?   *tapping the temple with index finger* It’s all up in here ladies and gentleman, it’s all up in here.   (bet on Shane Carwin right NOW!)

I was at a club one Saturday night and used a line, “I like your hot milfy look” on a girl to only get a response of “I just turned 22” and a drink thrown in my face.   Last weekend was kind of like that. Jun 01, 5:05pm Remember being a teenager and going out on that first date?  Before the actual date, you play the scenario over and over in your head in order to say the perfect things, to take her to a perfect place, to tell the perfect joke, so that you will have the opportunity to get your Japanese business men like grope on.   Then you actually go on that much anticipated date to find out within the first 5 mins it’s pretty much going to be a disaster, and those beautiful scenarios that have been playing out in your head was just a pipe dream.   Remember that?  Well welcome to my UFC 130 viewing.   I want to keep this short as possible to avoid further embarrassment; Roy Nelson looked like well, a fat white dude trying to fight.   When Big Country started to gasp for air like a fish out of water after throwing the first 2 punch combination 8 seconds into the fight, I knew I was going down quicker than a 20 dollar hooker with a 100 dollar offer for a BJ.   As for my Rampage via KO bet, well, if you are gonna get kicked in the balls, you might as well get kicked in the balls twice so that you have a better story to tell later.   So all I have left from my 100 is hope, aka 25 dollars.   And hope is a code word for gambling addicts like me to bet the favorite to get [...]
